Jobs
Well, a week from today is my last day at this position here at Nuveen. Oronova says I could probably take a job at the help desk if I want it. Bradford and Galt have some positions in St. Louis that i’d be a “perfect fit” for, but I promised Kelley I wouldn’t go anywhere.
Kelley and I stayed up late last night making resume changes and sending my resume to every recruiter I ever knew that I still had contact info for. Then uploaded it to every job posting board that we could think of, and finally applied for a bunch of jobs on them all. In the words of Kelley that is just the first step. The second going after companies directly that have no postings but may have a need. I definately trust her, so i’ll let her run with her strategy, she seems very confident. She promised me I wouldn’t be out of work over a year like I was last time saying the longest she’s been out of work is 3 weeks.
She makes me feel better about this thing, because alone I’d be really out of luck to find a new job.
Of course as always, if anyone out in cabin land has any leads or ideas let me know.

Well it’s DCM/DeKalb Championships weekend. You could consider it the midpoint of the season, and our second most important show of the year. We compete against all of the senior corps of our region tomorrow night: Chops Inc., MBI, and Govies. Wohoo! Should be a good competition. Plus we get to see every other corps in the area finally. I havn’t seen The Cavaliers yet, so i’m looking forward to them as always.
Wish me luck! WWBD!

LONG weekend! But it was great! It started early Friday morning by heading to Racine with Kelley for the two fourth of july parades that we had to do. The first was the famous Racine parade that was four miles in length. It was around 82F and had an ok breeze, so it wasn’t all that awful. However the second parade, Halles Corners, WI was BAD. Once we got away from the lake to this town the temp jumped another 10F, and we were in the 90s. This parade probably wasn’t even half of the length of Racine’s, but it felt like it would never end. I didn’t feel too great after that. Luckily, that was it for official Kiltie business on Friday. However, there were two kilties getting married that night, so it was off to the hotel to get changed and showered and ready to get pretty.
Then off to the wedding reception we went, all dressed up. I’ll have pictures soon, I hope. I’ll get them from Kelley. We were pretty tired from the long day of parades so we didn’t stay more than a couple hours until we headed back to the hotel. We were hungry, so we ordered a pizza that took like an hour. By the time we got it we were dead tired, so we downed some slices and nearly fell asleep with boxes of pizza in our lap.
Woke up not feeling well the next morning, due to the last second pizza binge the night before. But we packed up our stuff to get ready for the 6 hour rehersal in Racine, about an hour away from our hotel for the wedding.
We were late getting to rehersal due to us just being lazy that morning, but we got tons of rehersal in that day. The heat was killing us, though. Was soooo hot… but that’s drum corps for you. It didn’t stop us though, it was a show day! Our home show! So we rehersed for 6hours and then headed to the hotel to shower and hydrate and cool ourselves off from the long rehersal. We grabbed some dinner at culver’s and saw Marianne, her family, and some guy she dragged along.
Then off to the show. I did a small sectional with just the tenors before the drumline warmup, and we drilled some spots we wanted to work out. We slapped on the uniforms, did our warmup.. and headed to the field. Under the lights, we were the last corps to go on that night. It was our home show. We were rock stars. The place went crazy, never seen anything like it. We had the best show we’ve had thus far, and our score went up… we finally broke 50 points, and before DeKalb! Wohoo! The Kilties are on thier way to surprise people this year. I’m sure surprised after this weekend.
Kelley, Lisa, my parents, and I went to Demark’s bar (Home of the Racine Kilties) after the show to grab a bit to eat. It was packed with Kilties and Kilties fans celebrating the wonderful show. Afterwards back to the hotel for some much needed rest.
Think that’s the end of the weekend? Think again, that’s only saturday!
Sunday Kelley and I headed north from Racine to Milwaukee for Summerfest, the largest outdoor music festival so I could see Kill Hannah and Evanescence. I was paranoid cuz the rain kept coming on and off… and when it was on it was really ON. But by the time Kill Hannah finally came on at 8pm the rain was done for the day. KH rocked the house with a pretty short set.. but most sets are short at outdoor festivals such as that. The turnover time is a killer between bands. I was way impressed with some new equipment they got and the change of the backing tracks. I could tell they got a TON of new fans yesterday by the amount of CDs that were selling. I know Kelley is a fan… she got a shirt :)
Evanescence was ok. They are definately a studio band. And by the time they were done, I was ready to go home. Was a long weekend with lots of excitement. Just wish I could had gotten more than 3hrs of sleep last night before wakey time this morning. Oh well. I’m at work now getting paid to write this. Can’t beat that I suppose.

I emailed the guy who was Selling these on eBay and asked if he was still interested in selling them since he got no bids. Starting at $700.. worth over twice that with the stadium hardware. Wonder if I could get them for $600? I’d be ripping him off, but they are in perfect condition and they are beautiful. I want them. Bad.
