Why AJ’s kid is good for the cabin…

So crazy. AJ is a mommy. This is a big deal for the cabin, big big. For many reasons. I will state them here.

1) A girl can have a baby without complaining and talking about it to everyone all the time. You see, I work in a place where the age range of the females seems to be the prime age to have kids. So I hear about being pregnant a lot. They bitch, they moan, they laugh, they sit around with all the girls talking and rubbing thier bellies. AJ never said a word for months. People here at Nuveen I think after 1 week of being pregnant they leave thier jobs until the kid is 18yrs old. They use maternatiy leave as a form of vacation.

2) Someone can IRC while being with child. She was a cabiner just like anyone else. She posted to the web site and chatted up full time while at the same time working twice as much to make up for the fact that she would be gone from work for a bit.

3) You don’t have to get married to “da daddy”. She didn’t. Good AJ.

These are a few examples why AJ is the r33test IRC chik and why her having a kidlet is good for the cabin to prove to the world certain thingz about kid-having.

Off to DCM

Drum Corps Midwest Championships this weekend in Dekalb, IL. We hope to get 3rd place this year. An additional corps from the west is coming, and they’ll beat us. but we hope to beat a couple that beat us last year.

Kelley’s half-brother’s (ex?)wife and kids (with son’s girlfriend) is in town this week. They seem OK, not annoying or anything. There’s a 10yr old girl in the mix and she has the energy of a 10yr old girl, but it’s only until Saturday.

Today is Kelley’s birthday, I got some stuff for her. I need to pick up some gift bags to wrap them in though. I also have stuff planned for later in regards to a trip.

I think I know why i’m so meloncholoy when dealing with Kelley’s parents. Last night at dinner with her family I heard her mom talk to the people who came in about what Kelley is doing. Recently Kelley has been looking for a new job, and applied at a place downtown. This got interpreted by her mom to others as “A bank downtown is trying really hard to get Kelley over there” like it’s a big recruiting tactic, when it’s only an interview… like everyone interviews for jobs. I guess just the Kelley this, Kelley that every day from her parents (like it should be.. they ARE her parents afterall) just makes me fade into the background. Kelley did this, Kelley is so good at that, how everyone is so proud of her. Sometimes I guess I wish I had someone to tell me that i’m doing something worthwhile. The only time I have to talk to people that really care is when i’m at work. When I try to tell Kelley about a bad day or something it often just goes into how she had a worse day. So I limit my bitching about things to work hours. That way you figure, you’re getting paid for bitching about stuff… so it’s not a bad deal.

My Nose

I didn’t mention this past weekend I got sunburnt. Not the kind of sunburnt where you turn a little red and realize you should had put sunscreen on. No, the kind of burn where your cheek starts bleeding from the broken blister and your nose grows a large exploding puss filled sun lump.

My cheek is healing. Large scab on my right one, with dark peeling, leather-like skin surrounding it. My nose is peeling like crazy. I keep having to go to the bathroom to rub it down with warm water to remove all the molted skin. People keep saying stuff about it. “Your nose.. man…. your nose.”

My arms were burnt, but nothing bad. Just a standard sunburn there. They were red, and now they’re just tan.. they’ll be fine. But my face is going to have issues for a while.

Monday I didn’t go to work due to the fact that my body was so badly burnt. Kelley and I both had “sun poisoning” (not sure if that’s real, or if it’s just a term that describes feeling like crap due to over exposure from the sun). Sunday night and Monday I went throught the aloe regiment and had some pain killer spray to spray on my burns, it did seem to help. But nothing is going to save me from this peeling, I don’t think.

All this happened because saturday was a very gloomy day in Racine. No sun out, so I wasn’t worried about getting burnt. I was very wrong. Many others were as well. And we’re all paying for it now.

Stuph

I was writing a cabin journal last week, when I rebooted my PC midtype and I never went back to retype it. So here’s stuph.

On Sunday the Kilties had our dress rehersal performance for friends and family. The Pioneer from Milwaukee, WI also performed thier first dress rehersal there as well. It was really a big deal for us Kilties as it was the first time the corps put on our brand new uniforms. Here’s a picture of a set with the drumline.

Our dress rehersal went really well, I was impressed. This weekend we have our first competition of the year… so we’ll see how things go.

Previous to this weekend i’ve been quite busy doing stuff. Friday I had off due to Regan day. Thursday night I went to see a band called HELLA, with opening group Need New Body on reccomendation of Frank at work (frankpayne.com). Need New Body was pretty messed up. A 10 member band with 4 of them being drummers. Add in a couple keyboards, guitars, banjo, sax, etc. HELLA was a duo consisting of a drummer and a guitar player. No vocals. It was the guitar player playing stuff and the drummer playing total bad ass drum solos. There was no structure, no beat, no tempo.. just pure chaos. Awful music. Wonderful drummer. It was an experience I’d both love and hate to have again.

Last weekend Kelley and I were in the UP for family stuff. That was an OK time.
