Exciting news about PandoraFM
So I wanted to sit down and tell everyone about the current status of PandoraFM. And I have great news to report.
To start, I never wanted to be “The PandoraFM Guy”. The first code I ever wrote as a proof of concept was to prove to other people certain things could be done, and I hoped everyone else would take that knowledge and run with it. As we all know, that’s not how it turned out. There’s more people out there that want to use a service than to build their own. Obviously, that makes sense. I don’t know what I was thinking. But regardless I did my best cranking out what I felt to be a pretty good product for a while by myself. Something else I never wanted to do. I believe wholeheartedly in the open source movement, and the ideas behind a bunch of people sitting down and putting together something that many people want to use. But like many things in life it was just easier for me to do it myself than to figure out how to do it “the right way”.
I put a request up quite a few months ago asking if anyone would want to take the torch of PandoraFM and run with it. I really inside still wanted a team to develop it, but I figured one person would come forward, i’d hand over the code, and my part in the project would be over. But lucky for me, all at once, months after my request went public… I got a few responses.
I sent a few emails to all of them at once and said “hey, you are all interested in working on this, let’s all work together. What do you guys do?” And things took off. These guys are great, and i’m so excited. Everyone has a skill set, everyone has opinions, and everyone is working together. One guy setup a collaborative environment for us to use to discuss, another guy set us up on SourceForge.net. We have someone working on design ideas, etc etc. I uploaded the source to our Subversion repo, and things are falling into place.
Just seeing PandoraFM listed on SourceForge is really huge for me. It’s validation that PandoraFM is a project that can live on with or without me.
So congratulations to all involved, and all who may some day be involved.

Really awesome Gabe,
I listen at work daily – love the concept of picking my own tunes; although I do not get the opportunity to thumbs up or down as often. Music in general has been a saving grace for many emotional situations dealt with – and will always be a source of comfort.
PS Glad you have wheels again – just wish you had some recourse on that money issue, damn.
